Your Ticket to the World

Each year, about 25 honors students from IU’s Kelley School of Business take a course on the emerging market of India. They study the country’s economy, government, policies, culture, and history, and then they take a more hands-on approach: a 10-day trip throughout the country.

Nearly 2,000 IU students a year participate in overseas study for a summer, semester, or full year, and even more spend time abroad for courses or activities like alternative spring break trips. All of these experiences give our students a new perspective on other peoples, cultures, and ideas—a process that is both personally enriching and vital for a successful career in today’s interconnected world.

You can even earn academic credit toward your degree and use financial aid to help pay for overseas study. What’s not to love?

A World of Cultures on Campus

You can get a taste of international culture right here in Bloomington. IU students come from more than 125 countries and represent a variety of ethnicities, beliefs, and backgrounds. Our students contribute to a culturally rich community that includes:

• Performances by organizations like the African American Arts Institute’s choral ensemble, dance company, and soul revue
• An Asian Culture Center, First Nations Educational and Cultural Center, Hillel Center, Islamic Center, Latino Cultural Center (La Casa), Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center, and Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center
• More than 50 international student groups

Get Fluent

Can you say that in Kurdish? IU Bloomington was the first North American university to offer the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish, which is spoken in Kurdistan, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria. More than 50 foreign languages are offered at IU, including some that aren’t taught at any other American university.
