Students applying for fall 2010... While November 1 is the freshman priority date, you may still apply for admission and be considered for merit scholarships at this time.
You have two options for applying to IU:
- Apply online. Our online application is easy to use and secure, and it gives you immediate confirmation that we’ve received your application.
- Download and complete the International Freshman Application (PDF, 1.7 MB).
The priority date for spring 2010 applications was September 15. Applications for the spring 2010 term submitted after September 15 will not be considered. If you would like to apply to IU, please apply for the fall 2010 term.
Application Checklist
Before you apply, make sure to review our admission standards and priority dates. In addition to a completed online or paper application, you must submit the following items before we can start our review.
- $65 application fee. If you apply online, you must pay the fee by credit card. If you apply on paper, please follow the instructions for submitting your application fee. We do not accept checks for international applications fees.
- Document Cover Page (PDF). This form must be submitted with all other documentation you send to the Office of International Admissions.
- Completed counselor section with counselor’s signature. Print the Counselor Signature Form (PDF) and take it to your counselor or school administrator.
- Official academic records. If you are studying in the U.S. or Canada, we must receive current, official academic records directly from your high school. If you are studying in another country, please submit original, official copies of your secondary school academic record. If the original is not in English, also include a certified, literal translation. In all cases, the record must be an official copy bearing an original stamp or seal. Learn more about country-specific requirements.
- SAT/ACT scores. All applicants must complete either the SAT I or the ACT, and must submit the results from the SAT or ACT writing component along with the other standard sections of either test. When you register for either test, make sure to have your scores sent to IU Bloomington. Our SAT code is 1324 and our ACT code is 1210.
- International Student Financial Documentation form (PDF) and supporting financial documentation. Federal regulations require students to demonstrate that they have the financial resources to support themselves and any dependents during their first year of study in the United States. We cannot review your application until we receive this information.
- English Proficiency/TOEFL score. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for non–native English speakers applying to the Jacobs School of Music, but not for most other applicants. If you have taken the TOEFL, we encourage you to submit your scores to assist with academic advising. The testing service should report TOEFL scores directly to IU Bloomington. IU’s TOEFL code is 1324. All new international students must take IU’s English Proficiency Examination upon arrival at the university to determine if they must take any English courses. You must take any English courses prescribed from the results of this examination. Fees for special part-time English courses are the same as for other courses; however, credits earned do not meet degree requirements. If the results of this exam indicate that full-time work in English is required, you will be assigned to the intensive English Program (IEP) and will be unable to take academic courses until you achieve adequate English proficiency. If you have serious doubts about your English ability and are not financially prepared to understand the additional time and expense of an intensive English program here, you should consider completing English study in your home country and delaying your application to a future term.
