How to Apply
Future Freshmen
Direct Admission
Most freshmen begin their studies in University Division (UD), where they fulfill the requirements to certify into a degree-granting major or school. Incoming freshmen with strong high school records and test scores, however, can get an early start on their major course work. The following IU schools offer direct admission:
- College of Arts and Sciences
- Kelley School of Business
- School of Education
- School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation
- School of Informatics
- School of Journalism
- School of Public and Environmental Affairs
Similarly, students who are admitted to IU, complete the Jacobs School of Music application, and successfully audition or interview can be admitted directly to the school.
Between 10 and 20 percent of incoming students are direct admits. We will notify you after you’ve been admitted to the university if you qualify for direct admission.
