How to Apply
Future Freshmen
Apply Now
Students applying for fall 2010... While November 1 is the freshman priority date, you may still apply for admission and be considered for merit scholarships at this time.
You can apply to IU if you’ve completed your junior year of high school. You have two options for applying:
- Apply online. Our online application is easy to use and secure, and it gives you immediate confirmation that we’ve received your application.
- Download and complete the Freshman Application for Admission (PDF, 1.9 MB).
Application Checklist
Before you apply, make sure to review our admission standards and priority dates. In addition to a completed online or paper application, you must submit the following items before we can start our review.
- $55 application fee. If you apply online, you must pay the fee by credit card. If you submit the paper application, you can include a check or money order.
- Completed counselor section with counselor’s signature. Print the Counselor Signature Form (PDF) and take it to your counselor. We also accept the Electronic Secondary School Report (ESSR) in lieu of the Counselor Signature Form, and electronic high school transcripts if your school prefers these methods of communication.
- High school transcript. We must receive a current, official transcript directly from your high school.
- SAT/ACT scores. All applicants must complete either the SAT I or the ACT, and must submit the results from the SAT or ACT writing component along with the other standard sections of either test. When you register for either test, make sure to have your scores sent to IU Bloomington. Our SAT code is 1324 and our ACT code is 1210.
Admission Status
We know, when you really want to get into a college, it feels like you’re waiting months for that acceptance letter instead of weeks. But at IU, the wait is for a good reason: we receive thousands of applications per year, and we want to review all of them—including yours—carefully.
So please bear with us. We practice rolling admissions, which means we’ll review your application as soon as we receive all of your supporting documents, beginning in early fall of your senior year. You can expect to hear whether you’ve been accepted to IU four to eight weeks after we receive all of your application materials.
In the meantime, you can check your admission status online.
